Tim Allen
Professor, Development Studies Institute (DESTIN) of the London School of Economics
Dr. Tim Allen is a Professor in Development Anthropology at the Development Studies Institute (DESTIN) of the London School of Economics. Tim has expertise in the fields of complex emergencies, ethnic conflict, forced migration, local conception of health and healing, East Africa (especially Sudan, Uganda and Kenya), development aid and agencies and ethics of aid. He is also an experienced broadcaster and has presented or contributed to numerous radio programmes for the Open University and the BBC. In 2001 he was elected to the Academy of Social Sciences for contributions in the application of anthropology to development issues.
Tim’s publications include the best selling textbook, Poverty and Development, Divided Europeans, The Media of Conflict, Culture and Global Change, and two books on the repatriation and homecoming of African refugees. His most recent work includes articles on press censorship in war zones, health issues in Africa, Trial Justice: The International Criminal Court and the Lord’s Resistance Army 2006), and upcoming: The Lord’s Resistance Army: Myth and Reality (edited with Koen Vlassenroot), and the Routledge Dictionary of Humanitarianism (with Mareike Schomerus)

Morgan Clendaniel
Deputy Editor, GOOD Magazine
Morgan Clendaniel is the Deputy Editor of GOOD, a media company and a collaboration of individuals, businesses, and nonprofits pushing the world forward. He spearheads GOOD’s Transparency section, a series of infographics that appears weekly on www.GOOD.is.
Morgan advised the web team on best practices in data visualization and user-generated visualization content.
Patrick Crowley
Area Coordinator, Kandahar, Tearfund
Patrick Crowley manages a series of disaster risk reduction, public health education, nutrition, and water and sanitation projects in the South of Afghanistan for Tearfund, a British Christian relief and development NGO. His recent work has focused on developing effective systems for the remote management of humanitarian programmes in insecure environments. He previously worked as an infantry officer in the British Army serving in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Sierra Leone.
Patrick advised the web team on content for the humanitarian quiz and humanitarian careers sections, as well as the History of Humanitarianism slideshow.
Carol Devine
Advocacy Advisor, Board of Directors, Dignitas International
Carol Devine leads an initiative to improve the multi-sector (medico-socio-legal) response to gender-based violence in Malawi for Dignitas, a medical humanitarian organization working with the Malawian Ministry of Health to provide treatment and care for people living with HIV/AIDS. She recently facilitated a meeting for the Stephen Lewis Foundation in Uganda for 15 innovative community-based organizations from across Africa working to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS.
Carol is the former Program Director and Access to Essential Medicines Campaign Liaison for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Canada. She worked with MSF in Rwanda, South Sudan, and East Timor. For MSF she presented before Parliamentary Committees in Canada and urged Ministers and the World Trade Organization to stop trading away health in Free Trade Agreements.
Carol was Program Manager for the Diplomacy Training Program (DTP), Faculty of Law, University of New South Wales, an advocacy and human rights law program for civil society advocates in the Asia Pacific. The DTP was founded by Nobel peace laureate Dr. José Ramos-Horta. Carol led participatory trainings for young Aboriginal Australians, Burmese and Tibetan refugees. She lives in Toronto.

Shelley Gornall
Operational Data Management Specialist, UNHCR
Shelley Gornall has been an Operational Data Management Specialist at UNHCR since 2005. She developed the Operational Data Management Learning Programme and has gone on several field support missions to strengthen humanitarian data systems, including Ghana, Tanzania, Burundi, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, India, Iraq, Somalia, Uganda, Yemen and Sudan. She has specialized in IDP data management for the last 3 years, with particular focus on population data management, needs assessment, protection monitoring and non-food item distribution tracking. She represents UNHCR and its clusters on two IASC Task Forces. She is a Canadian national.

Mark Greenspan
Chief Operating Officer, Achilles Media
As Chief Operating Officer of Achilles Media, Mark oversees the day-to-day operations of a company that contributes to the success of business community members by providing platforms for the formation of professional relationships and knowledge share. Achilles Media’s portfolio includes the organization of prime international events and up to the minute news, as well as digitally-based products and services.
Mark comes to his role with a decade’s worth of international experience in the field of consulting, production and education. He worked for Razorfish – UK and was part of the team sent to open a start up office in Milan, Italy. He has been a lecturer, designing and teaching new media curricula in Singapore, Philippines, India and Canada. He has also set up a boutique digital production agency called methodgroup.
Mark sits on various advisory boards including the Mobile Experience Innovation Centre, the Documentary Association of Canada’s DocSHIFT initiative and the Inside Disaster project. He has also completed a Masters of Education at the University of Toronto and is passionate about community, connectivity and creativity.

Mareike Schomerus
Mareike Schomerus is a researcher, consultant, teacher and broadcaster who works on violent conflict, peace, development, human security and small arms with a particular focus on Uganda and southern Sudan. At the Department of International Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science, she is the CEO of a new DfID-sponsored international research consortium on justice, security and governance in conflict-affected situations. A graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, Mareike spent 15 years working for major international broadcasters in Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom before returning to academia.
Mareike advised the Inside Disaster web team on humanitarian research, the history of humanitarianism, and educational outreach.
